Technology

In today’s world, the use of technology in the classroom is essential in preparing students for college and careers.  South Harrison believes that the meaningful integration of technology into instruction will assist in this preparedness.  Further, by providing our students and community with opportunities to use technology and access information in a timely fashion, we are providing equal opportunity for all students and families to learn and achieve.

Current Classroom Technology Environment

Students in grades K-12 use technology daily to further their learning.  Our current technology environment is as follows:

  • Students in our preschool programs do not use technology regularly in the classroom.  Instead, students focus more on social interactions, discovery, and play.

  • Students in grades K-2 are 1:1 with iPads.

  • Students in grades 3-12 are 1:1 with Chromebooks.

South Harrison students rely heavily on Google apps (e.g. Drive, Docs, Classroom, etc.) to engage in class work. Student are closely monitored by teachers when they use technology in the classroom.  South Harrison also uses Apple Classroom and GoGuardian to filter and monitor student activity.

South Harrison also provides access to the parent app for GoGuardian. This allows parents to monitor student usage and control devices outside of school hours. Click here to learn more.

In addition to student devices, our teachers have their own devices and our classrooms are equipped with projectors, speakers, and interactive boards.  Some classrooms are equipped with even more technology depending on the type of instruction that occurs.

Student and Family Resources

Students should be able to access all of the required technology tools right from their device.  Apps are pre-loaded onto the student devices.  Required websites can be located via shortcuts on the iPad home screen or by launching the Chrome browser and accessing the SHCSC Bookmarks on Chromebooks. Teachers also share resources with students via Seesaw and Google Classroom.
