Several South Harrison schools were recently honored among the 2026 Best Schools by the U.S. News & World Report.
Corydon Central High School
Corydon Central High School is among several South Harrison schools that achieved recognition. This distinction highlights the diverse opportunities and programs available to students, as well as the state-of-the-art facilities designed to prepare them for life after graduation and beyond.

Corydon Central Junior High School and Corydon Intermediate School
Corydon Central Junior High School and Corydon Intermediate School were both recognized as top middle schools based on student performance on state-required tests, graduation outcomes, and how well they prepare students for high school. Both schools ranked in the top 14% of middle schools in the state, highlighting their strong commitment to student success and preparedness. CIS Principal Wendy Carter stated, “I’m so proud of our students, teachers, and staff! This kind of success takes all of us working together, and it’s amazing to see what we can achieve when we do.”


Heth-Washington Elementary School
Heth-Washington Elementary School was also amongst the best elementary schools, reflecting the school’s higher-than-average student proficiency levels and its dedication to providing students with a strong academic foundation. This recognition showcases the staff’s commitment to meaningful instruction and creating a supportive learning environment.

South Central Elementary School
South Central Elementary School also earned recognition as one of the best elementary schools. This achievement highlights the dedication of its hardworking staff and students, as well as the school’s unique approaches to teaching and student support.

New Middletown Elementary School
New Middletown Elementary School also received recognition among the best elementary schools. The school’s creative and engaging approaches to learning, along with its commitment to building a strong academic foundation, helped earn this distinction. Principal Robert Briscoe said, “NMES is grateful to our teachers, staff, students, families, and community partners whose commitment makes achievements like this possible. This recognition reinforces our mission to prepare students not only for academic success but for meaningful contributions to their community and future careers.”

Corydon Elementary School
Corydon Elementary School also received recognition through its commitment to providing diverse learning opportunities and supporting every student’s success. Principal Scott Ferriell said, “I’m very proud of the CES teachers, staff, and students for the role they played in making CES one of Indiana’s Best Elementary Schools.”
